Professor Dame Janet Thornton http://www.ebi.ac.uk/research/thornton Last week we were very fortunate to have Janet Thornton come to the University to give a lecture, she was invited for the Chemistry Department Colloquia . Professor Thornton is a Nottingham graduate and is Director of EMBL-EBI . The lecture was titled ‘’Capturing Enzyme Evolution in silico’’.   Now we are rather interested in a number of enzymes that appear to be important in the processes of ageing and neurodegeneration. The lecture was informative and easy to follow ,she has a rare gift to be able to translate complicated computational research ideas and processes into language readily understood by biochemists and biologists. We will be using some of the tools her lab has develeoped, for example EC-BLAST , to look more closely at the enzymes we are interested in.
