CAT_eye study

Today we had our first volunteers for our eye study to see whether we can affect the way mitochondria age in the eye...and perhaps in the future also in the brain and muscle! Many thanks to our initial group who we will be seeing again in a week - don't forget to take your drops! Trying to remember everything we need - the office is becoming quite crowded....

Drug Repurposing Meeting

On November 18th and 19th 2019 we held the first Biochemical Society Drug Repurposing Meeting  The meeting was held in Birmingham and was enjoyed by all. The plenary talk by Janet Thornton was a highlight of course and many other excellent talks and discussions suggested that there is an emerging need for groups engaged in these activities to meet and talk. A major strength of the programme was the fluid mix of academia and industry leading to a lot of sharing of ideas to get potential repurposed therapies into the clinic. Intro by Frank Wesselly - Cardiff.  First talk by Martin Zeidler - Sheffield Professor Dame Janet Thornton -EBI

Nottingham City Archive and Collections

In November I went to visit Sue Mallender at Nottingham City Council. Her office is based in the grounds of Wollaton Hall ( ie. Wayne Manor in The Dark Knight Rises) and we talked about showing the Coll Age project at Nottingham's festival of Science and Curiosity held in February. The archive is an absolute treasure trove and so I went crazy taking photos, here are some.

Coll Age

A COLL aboration between science and art on the subject of healthy AGE ing. At the Soap Box Science event in Grantham I met Keith Bloody Mary an artist who has previously worked on Public Engagement projects with scientists. I really liked her work. Sometime in the middle of 2019 we applied for and got an award to collaborate on a project to engage the public on the subject of my research. In October we held a small collage workshop to get an idea of how the collaging process works and to get the researchers together with the artist to develop some ideas. The first event where we will be engaging with the 'real public' is coming up on the evening of the 31st January 2020. The artworks designed for the event will be up at The Hockley Arts Club in Nottingham from 5.30pm - come along and take a look!
